Detox Drink
To a blender, add:
- 8 ounces orange juice or apple juice
- 4 ounces pure water
- 1/2 cup cut-up banana, strawberries or yogurt
- 1/2 inch slice of ginger (do not remove the skin!)
- 1 small garlic clove
- 1 tablespoon flax oil
- 1 tablespoon lecithin granules
- 1 tablespoon squeezed lime juice
YOU MAY ADD OR SUBSTITUTE:
- a tablespoon of protein powder
- a spoonful of spirulina powder
- a tablespoon of Coral Calcium powder
(when adding powdered items you may want to add a little extra water or juice) - lemon juice instead of lime juice
- olive oil or Omega-3 oil instead of flax oil
- apple juice instead of orange
- blueberries instead of bananas
Make sure to add water to the 8 ounces of juice because otherwise the drink comes out much too thick. You can add a splash of a rice milk for added flavor.
Experiment with this recipe to find the drink you prefer. It gives a real added boost in the morning or whenever you drink it.
Liver Cleanse (good idea for people who consume alcohol)
Before you cleanse, make sure to clear out the colon. If there is food stuck or blocked in the colon it must be flushed out first. This may be accomplished by getting colonics (colonic irrigations) which are usually performed by health professionals such as nurses. Or you may wish to do a few enemas at home with prepared enemas that you may purchase at the drugstore. You may also purchase colon-cleansing products. Make sure to cleanse your colon, and also be drinking at least 48-64 ounces of water daily. Eating a light diet consisting of mainly fruits and vegetables will also help to prepare your body for the cleanse.
NOTE: If you suspect that you have GALLSTONES, do NOT do this cleanse! Get an ulrasonic check-up from your doctor.
Here is a five-day liver/gall bladder flush that will really help restore your vitality by purifying and cleansing the organs and blood:
1. From SUNDAY breakfast through FRIDAY lunch:
Eat a light, healthy diet consisting mainly of fruits and vegetables for the duration of this program. In addition to 64 ounces of pure water, drink at least one quart of apple juice or apple cider a day (preferably organic).
Why?
This much apple will soften the sludge that can build up in the gall bladder. The job of the gall bladder is to emulsify fats, but when it is backed up with waste matter and sludge it will not do its job, contributing to gas, bloating, GI tract discomfort, heartburn, etc.
Avoid fried and fatty foods such as French fries, meats, pork, processed/packaged food.
2. 3 hours after Friday lunch:
Dissolve 3 teaspoons of epsom salts or disodium phosphate into an ounce of hot water and drink it down. You may chase that down with grapefruit juice as it is very salty. Eat nothing else for the rest of the day Friday.
3. 2 hours after the above on Friday:
Repeat Step 2. Drink plenty of water. The drinks are very salty but they do clear a pathway for bile and sludge to pass through without getting stuck anywhere. It’s a good idea to drink grapefruit or lemon juice at this time, because it helps to alkalinize the body (detoxifying can cause a temporarily acidic condition in the body and this will balance that effect). If you cannot drink citrus fruits, you can put a half teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of your drinking water. Or you can find alkalinizing products at your health food store, like Glyco-Thymoline.
4. Before going to bed Friday night mix a half cup of unrefined olive oil with a little lemon or grapefruit juice and drink it down. If this makes you feel queasy have a few sips of club soda to settle your stomach.
5. Last step, hooray! When you go to bed lie on your right side with your right knee pulled up to your chest for a half hour. This helps the processing of oils via the stomach so that the gall bladder will be prepared to receive them.
When you put your leg down again after the half hour, the gall bladder will have a little tension squirt of bile through it, and you may feel this - some people have reported that they do feel a tugging sensation in that area. Then, go to sleep! By then, you will want to!
6. First thing next morning (Saturday), dissolve two teaspoons of Epsom salts in two ounces of hot water, add a bit of lemon or grapefruit juice. Drink this and eat nothing for about two hours afterward. The purging action of this will get the sludge out that was released last night from the gall bladder.
It goes without saying that this cleanse is best accomplished when you are not active, making plans or socializing! You will want access to a bathroom and you may feel like not doing much at all. Sometimes cleanses are accompanied by headaches and light headedness. This is part of the cleansing process (headaches most often relate to the liver function and you are giving that function a major push as well as major support). The temporary discomforts are greatly outweighed by the long-term benefits you are giving your body by removing the built-up intestinal sludge and junk which are responsible for so many ailments.
3-Day Apple Diet
Here is a cleansing regimen recommended in the medical readings of Edgar Cayce, the famous trance medium of the 20th century whose “channel” provided a wealth of information about nutritional healing.
As always, this 3-day diet should be preceded by about 7 days of eating a light, nutritional, junk-free diet.
For the 3 days of this diet, eat only:
- Fresh apples, any kind, preferably organic
- Pure spring water
- Pure unfiltered apple juice, preferably organic
- Applesauce, preferably organic
- Baked apples of any kind
- Apple cider vinegar
- Cold-pressed olive oil
You may eat as much as you want, and make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water.
Upon arising on Day 3 of this diet, quickly drink 1/2 cup of olive oil and flush it down with apple juice. Then drink a small amount of water or apple juice into which a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar has been mixed. You may resume a normal diet beginning in the morning of Day 4.
Strawberry Detox
Strawberries contain high levels of vitamin C and helps to remove harmful free radicals from the bloodstream.
In excess, free radicals can cause damage to cells, accelerate aging, and create arterial clogs. They are counteracted by high levels of antioxidants, such as those present in citrus, leafy green vegetables, and fruits such as strawberries. Strawberries also contain bioflavonoids, which minimize the effect of free radicals and assist the immune system.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound roughly chopped strawberries
- 1 cup silken tofu
- 1/2 outer rind of orange peel
- 1 tsp. honey
Drain tofu and place it in blender or food processor. Add strawberries, honey and orange peel and process until smooth. Spoon into a dessert dish, refrigerate for 20 minutes, enjoy!
